| My
Life My Country - The soon to come Advani Memoirs |
The BJP under Vajpayee and
Advani is unique in that it has never split and every public falling
out by a dissident leader has almost always seen the dissidents fade
into political irrelevance while the mother ship sails on. The past
six decades of democracy in India have been characterised by one-man/one-woman
shows with the express purpose of serving the ego of the individual
at the top with no tolerance for either dissent or for a line of succession
outside the family.
It is in this sense the Vajpayee-Advani tango is unqiue and without
a parallel. read

| Advani,
the writer, shows the way to other politicians |
| And now comes the biggest
blockbuster of them all---- L.K.Advani's autobiography---My Country,
My life. No leader of Advani's stature and at his stage in life---remember
he is the Prime Ministerial aspirant of the NDA---- has ever in
this country dared to bring out his autobiography, after Jawaharlal
Nehru. And for that one single act of daring, Advani needs to be
whole-heartedly complimented.

Polls, Advani Memoirs and Congress clowns |
Coming to the Advani book launch,
it was absurd to read media and congress reactions. Sardesai makes
an ass of himself with questions that were more about confirming his
own prejudices than about the book or Mr. Advani’s views. Neerja
Choudhary in the rediff reminds of the intellectual vaccum in the
media with her juvenile comments on Mr. Advani’s alluding to
Narendra Modi being first among equals in the next generation in the
BJP.
The worst reactions predictably have come from the Congress. To begin
with it was utterly lacking in grace of the Congress to not have attended
the book launch. read

| My
Country, My Life by L K Advani |
| A tome of a book, I must say.
But considering the longevity of Advani's political life,a lesser
number of page would not have done complete justice. This book
is almost a summarisation of all that happened at independence, partition
and thereafter in the Indian politics. The timing of the book -
with elections nearing, certainly indicates Advani is on an offensive
to spread his charm.
You should not expect an active politician's memoir to be completly
truthful - I guess there are no lies told here. But there certainly
seems to be a lot of evasion. A lot is said but a lot remains unsaid.
Lot said unsaid - this certainly does not hold true about his opponent
colleagues. A lot of rumours have been confirmed.
