ON INDIA WINNING THE BRONZE MEDAL IN WRESTLING
AT THE BEIJING OLYMPICS 2008

August 20, 2008

It is indeed a proud moment for the entire country which is today celebrating Sushil Kumar winning a bronze medal in the 66 KG class freestyle wrestling event at the Beijing Olympics.

What makes Sushil's achievement even more heartening is that he is only the second Indian wrestler to ever win a bronze medal at the Olympic Games after Kashabha Jadhav had won a bronze in the 1952 Helsinki Games.

Both Sushil Kumar and Abhinav Bindra have done the country proud with their each winning a medal at the Olympics. I extend my heartiest congratulations to not only Sushil Kumar and his coach and family members but also hope that our other sportspersons will try and emulate this achievement in the remaining events.
